About Rohrdorfer

Rohrdorfer is a leading company in the construction materials industry, operating ready-mix sites, cement plants, precast concrete elements and multiple aggregate facilities across Germany, Austria, Italy Hungary and Slovakia. A long-time CheckProof customer, Rohrdorfer has used the platform for several years to streamline safety, maintenance, and quality processes to strengthen its own operation but certainly also their customer focus.

Today, most users are active in the Ready-Mix division, where teams across Germany and Austria share one CheckProof account, including licenses, templates, and checklist content - creating a standardized approach to documentation and continuous improvement across borders.

We sat down with Ulrich Fischer, Technical Director at Rohrdorfer’s Ready-Mix Concrete Division (Region 1), and Roland Höller, IT and Process Optimization Specialist, to learn how CheckProof support their commitment to safer, more efficient, and more sustainable operations.

Can you start by describing Rohrdorfer’s operations?

Rohrdorfer currently uses CheckProof at 38 locations in Germany and Austria with over 140 active users. The platform supports key processes such as daily safety checks, structured reporting and tracking of deviations, and seamless documentation of maintenance and quality measures. It is particularly crucial for us that all information is centrally available and can be analyzed in real time. This creates a unified database across all locations and enables continuous improvement of our operational processes.

Could you both introduce yourselves and your roles?

Ulrich: I work as the Technical Director for our Ready-Mix Concrete Division in Region 1 and I am based in Bavaria/Germany. My focus areas include technical optimization, safety, and process improvements. A big part of my work is ensuring that we document workplace procedures efficiently, reducing paperwork and minimizing manual handovers in the documentation chain.

Roland: As part of Rohrdorfer’s IT department, my focus is process optimization and compliance, identifying and integrating digital tools that fit seamlessly into how we work. Ulrich drives improvement on the ground; I make sure the digital infrastructure is there to support it. I am based in Austria and even though we are located in different places, our cooperation works well with digital tools helping to facilitate daily operational business.

“It has improved communication significantly. All information now flows through one platform, which gives us clearer and higher-quality input from the field.”
Ulrich Fischer, Technical Director at Rohrdorfer’s Ready-Mix Concrete Division (Region 1)

Furthermore, the offline mode is a major advantage for us. Many of our sites are in remote locations, so being able to perform inspections offline and have everything sync automatically later is critical.

You also mentioned the electronic safety card as part of your Incident Module - how does that work in practice?

The safety cards are used across sites and equipment to report unsafe conditions or near misses. Each report includes photos and documentation, allowing teams to describe what happened and suggest improvements directly in the same form. Everything is recorded in one consistent format, making it easier to analyze, act, and learn from incidents.

Ulrich, how has CheckProof supported your maintenance and planning - especially during the winter shutdown period?

Throughout the year, we use tags in CheckProof to record deviations (issues) and maintenance needs, customized to fit each specific situation and workflow. During a period of one year, deviations will be tagged as “winter repair” and added into the workbook. When starting preparation for winter repair season these activities will be pulled and scheduled for repair with internal or external suppliers and parts. This allows us to plan major repairs in advance, order spare parts early, and manage suborders efficiently. It’s a more proactive and structured approach.

How has CheckProof improved communication between the field and management?

It has improved communication significantly. All information now flows through one platform, which gives us clearer and higher-quality input from the field. We don’t need to ask basic follow-up questions anymore - we can act faster because we get the full picture right away.

What CheckProof features have been especially valuable for your Ready-Mix operations?

The Incident Module with its Safety Cards are core, along with site and safety walkarounds. We’re also testing the Planning Tool to gain better visibility across our sites and maintenance schedules.

How has CheckProof changed daily routines for your teams?

It’s part of the daily workflow now. Plant managers, maintenance crews, and logistics teams use it from the start of the day to track progress, check equipment status, and follow up on deviations. The result is a more structured, transparent way of working and documenting. Frontline workers appreciate the ease of use and having their work done digitally, which releases them from manual reporting.

Have you noticed any impact on engagement or accountability?

Yes - performing daily checks and completing safety cards has become second nature. It’s how teams start their day, much like a “Take 5” safety moment. This routine has strengthened both awareness and ownership of safety.

The most-used features across our teams include Offline Mode, Deviation (Work Orders) Templates, of course paired with the core functionality of using customized checklists, giving everyone - from frontline workers to management - full visibility of what’s happening in real time.

Since implementing CheckProof, have you seen measurable improvements - such as time saved, faster issue resolution, fewer breakdowns, or better audit readiness?

Absolutely. The centralized workflow and digital documentation have saved time and reduced errors. Deviations are handled faster, maintenance planning is more efficient, and audit preparation takes far less effort because everything is traceable in one system.

Rohrdorfer has set an ambitious goal to become CO₂-neutral by 2038. How do digital tools like CheckProof support that transition?

Digitizing workflows saves large amounts of paper, but the benefits go beyond that — better data means smarter planning, fewer unnecessary site visits, and optimized equipment utilization. All of this contributes to our “Race to Zero” goals. We’re also exploring how CheckProof’s Planning Tool can help us to further reduce waste, improve maintenance efficiency, and ultimately build a more sustainable operation.

Looking ahead, what are your digital or operational goals for the next 12–24 months with CheckProof?

Roland: In plant maintenance and repair planning and control, I see the greatest potential for further optimization over the next one to two years.

How has performing periodic checks in CheckProof contributed to extending asset life or reducing downtime?

Ulrich: In the transport sector particularly, regular checks through CheckProof have helped reduce downtime by catching issues early — getting our truck mixers and concrete pumps into the workshop before a small problem becomes a costly one.

From a process management perspective, what was most important to get right during the rollout?

Roland: From my perspective, it’s important to involve operational colleagues from the very beginning - and to find local champions who can drive adoption in a decentralised way. A phased rollout, both geographically and in terms of content, significantly facilitated the introduction of the tool.

Before adopting CheckProof, how were daily processes such as inspections, maintenance planning, or reporting managed?

Ulrich: Just paper-based, without clean tracking and traceability.

What were the biggest challenges with the previous system?

Exactly what you’d expect, paper-based workflows, delays, lack of transparency and reporting gaps. Those were the pain points that made it clear we needed a better solution.

What initially motivated you to start looking for a digital solution?

Roland: We are constantly looking for ways to meaningfully digitalize our processes, carefully evaluating where manual and paper-based workflows can be improved. Sometimes that leads to efficiency gains. Sometimes it improves process reliability. And sometimes it delivers both, which is when a digitalization project becomes particularly compelling.

When an incident happens, every minute matters. A near miss, equipment damage, or a hydraulic leak can quickly become a bigger risk if the issue is not reported, investigated, and followed up properly. Cement Plant Inspection Checklist: What to Check, When to Check It, and Why It Fails
Most unplanned shutdowns in a cement plant don’t come out of nowhere. There’s usually a trail beforehand. Maybe a kiln bearing that’s been running 15 degrees above baseline for three weeks, noted by the operator on shift but never formally flagged because it hadn’t tripped an alarm yet. The issue isn’t a lack of warning, its that small deviations are often tolerated until they tip over into something serious.

How to Choose the Right Work Order App for Your Industry
When something breaks on site, the fix gets most of the attention, but it’s rarely where things go wrong. What’s just as critical is everything around it: who reported it, who picked it up, what got missed between shifts, and how long it sat before anyone acted. In many operations, that whole flow is still held together by paper forms, radio calls, and memory.
